SO, despite your best efforts you are still not at your “I’m Happy” weight.

You might be frustrated, annoyed, angry, generally pissed off or maybe just resigned to carrying more fat than you’d like. You are probably asking yourself “am I eating too much, too often, the wrong foods or all of the above?”
Well don’t beat yourself up anymore because what we’ve been told to do to control our weight over the last 50 yrs has not served us well as a population.
Spend a Saturday at any Australian shopping mall and you will see the obesity crisis here has reached epidemic proportions. You don’t want to be part of that group, so OK, let’s lose this extra fat and go on a diet! But here’s the thing..
Being over fat is not just about food and calories, its about HORMONES and hormonal
dysregulation, and INSULIN is the big boss of this whole scene. Insulin is our fat storage hormone. When we eat,Insulin goes up, telling our body to store the food energy as fat. When we don’t eat Insulin goes down telling the body to burn that stored fuel (our body fat) for energy. There are heaps of studies out there that show increased Insulin causes weight gain.
Most diets are about WHAT we eat rather than WHEN we eat, and current nutritional authorities encourage us to eat 5-6 times per day. Eat, eat, eat this is crazy stupid!!
Even in hospital, patients in bed, not moving more than a remote control, are being offered food 6 times a day. This means Insulin is going to hang around luring more unnecessary food energy into the fat cells making them like Hotel California-you can check in, but you can never leave!
STOP EATING ALL THE TIME..
Not eating, better know as fasting, is a great strategy to drop body fat. But wait, before you switch off, thinking there is no way you can fast, check this out.Let’s say you are 10kg overweight/overfat, that means hypothetically you’re wearing a puffer jacket made up of 70,000 calories.
Now there are about 250 calories in a cafe slice of sourdough bread. That’s 280 slices in your jacket. Now I’m pretty sure you could go for quite a while without passing out or dropping dead from starvation!
When the Doctor says to fast for a blood test or surgical procedure, we all comply, but when it comes to fat loss, fasting gets a bad rap. But why? Cultural and Religious groups have been practising fasting for centuries. You have to admit it is very effective and super cheap!
You don’t have to do long-haul food restriction to get results.
Start with ditching snacks and after a week or two start skipping breakfast a couple of days a week. OMG I hear you saying “but breakfast is the most important meal of the day” REALLY?
I think that little bit of propaganda came from the food industry trying to encourage us to eat the dreaded sugary cereal, which now seems to fill a whole isle in the supermarket. They can put whatever they like on the box... Gluten-Free, Organic, Natural, Superfood, Sprouted, Granola Muesli, Wholegrain, Wholesome, Just Right.. NO just wrong...they are all grain-based, and will spike your blood sugar and raise you Insulin.
If you’ve been asleep, hopefully for 8 hours, using basal energy, why would you need to eat the minute you swing your legs out of bed, unless of course you’re a bodybuilder trying to get really big or an athlete heading to the oval for a sprint session.
TOP TIP NO 2...
When you DO eat, you can mimic the effects of fasting by choosing REAL FOODS lower in carbohydrate, and higher in healthy fats to keep Insulin low and burn your own body fat....and before you can say “does my butt look big in this?” you’ll be trading that puffer jacket for a gorgeous new pair of skinny jeans.......WIN WIN!
